"This nigga woke." OMG. Lamorne Morris stars in this dramedy where a racist event makes Morris become a "woke" black man. In todays society, it is not ok to acknowledge and/or point out racism publicly without being labeled as a angry extremist. Simply the best series with a black lead released on streaming services in 2020 thus far. It doesn't teach or prove any points. It smartly shows problems and situations, then allows the viewers to feel however they may organically.
Tambay Obenson's scathing review is unfair and not honest to the Black American view of our own culture. I feel the complete opposite of what's needed for today. I guess some critics have lost touch with the black experience of today. You can get robbed by your own people, while being beaten and oppressed by others. "So what are you going to do now?". Emma Grey Ellis of Wired is correct by writing, "The system is absurd. You can’t capture its essence if you cling to the norms it’s taught you to adhere to, and you certainly can’t fight it that way".
